Do you remember in the Empire Strikes Back when Yoda said, "No! Try not! Do or do not, there is no try."

It doesn’t matter whether you like Star Wars or not...

Let’s give you another perspective…

Imagine that your friend is an alcoholic…

And your friend says, “I’m going to try not to drink.”

Will they stop drinking? Most likely not.

What if that same friend says, “I will not drink alcohol again.” 

That’s a similar statement, and it’s 180 degrees different in terms of meaning.
