Leased Ad Space
When facebook first came out, my buddy told me to check it out because it was a better way to market.
Anyway, so I got an account and started using it for friends and stuff.
Pretty soon, a few of teammates started using it, and lots of marketers started promoting products on how you can tap into Facebook for your business.
I scoffed.
My theory was that Facebook was like going to a barbeque…people don’t want to be pitched and sold and do business in casual social settings.
I also saw that Facebook was eating away at people’s productivity because they were spending hours creeping around and chatting about stuff instead of doing the real business of direct response marketing (I still believe this to a pretty high degree today).
But in time, my attitude started to change. A teammate texted me, “Hey, I just made a sale.”
I said, “Cool. What ad did it come from?”
She said, “Oh, it was a lady I met in a Facebook group.”
I said, “Hmmmm. Okay cool.”
Then, time ticked on…and my first ah-ha was when a little newbie started showing me how she was generating 5 leads a day
by advertising on facebook…and that those leads were actually converting into sales.
I now see facebook as a vital and easy tool to communicate with our colleagues, buyers, and friends. Plus, I think facebook has become the ultimate form of “social proof” as our once fearful and nervous buyers can go to facebook and see that the good marketers are operating in total and complete transparency.
In fact, I know for certain that dozens of greedy marketers have been snuffed out because they don’t dare open themselves up to real people who can comment if they are getting taken advantage of.
It’s freaking awesome: a true evolution in how the marketplace can self-police itself from scammers to some degree.
Anyway, I’ve been ramping up my facebook activity (I have two business pages and I have three groups that I’m starting to grow).
In fact, I realized I communicate far more with my facebook audience than my email list nowadays, I think I went for over 30 days without broadcasting an email…unforgiveable.
