Facebook Question Of The Month

How did the 2007 financial crisis change you?

I remember that year pretty well and it all

started when I got a meeting invite around 8pm for

the following morning.

My gut told me what it was and my phone kept

ringing all night with calls from co-workers who

received the same meeting invite but no one wanted

to believe what it mostly was about.

Hmmm..could be getting that pink slip or finding

out you are safe?

The next morning rolls around and I find myself in

a auditorium filled with people I worked with the

last 7 years. You could say we grew up together in

the corporate bubble.

We all sat together listening to a familiar face;

one that everyone tries to avoid…

… The HR Manager

Long story short, we all gathered together in a

congregation fashion and the message was

delivered.

“You are being laid off…”

No one expected to hear that message, let alone

thinking that “it can’t be happening to me right

now,” and the faces around the room with that look

of what I am going to do next.

“I have bills to pay”

“I have a family to feed”

And much more

As I sat here reading the latest issue of Money

Magazine, I found myself thinking about being laid

off after ready an article inside – “How Did The

2007 Financial Crisis Change You?”

That moment in time changed me forever and reading

one reader’s comment made more sense NOW than ever

before:

“I learned that we need more than one income.” –

Yaira Lamboy

Over the last decade, it was a challenge to find

something that would help get me back on my feet.

Even had to hold down two jobs to stay afloat.

But deep down inside we all knew in that room

filled with layoff employees that no job was

secure, nor could you expect to retire from one

that you started with.

Like Yaira said in the Money Magazine article, you

need more than one income.

Similar to having insurance if you have it…

It’s better to have it and not need it, than need

it and not have it.

"Opportunity doesn't make appointments, you have

to be ready when it arrives"

Have a great weekend,
