Immunization Shots for Emotional Support Dogs

Have you ever wondered if you should give your Emotional Support Dog shots? Puppies are usually vaccinated from 12 weeks or even earlier. Normally, when you buy a puppy, such as an emotional support dog, it is usually delivered with the health card and at least the first dose of vaccine. A puppy that is not vaccinated should not have any contact with other dogs, to avoid the spread of infections. Depending on the breed, geographic area in which we live, usefulness of the dog (company, beauty contests, etc.), the type of vaccine will vary.On the other hand, after dog vaccines, a decrease in T cell mediated cellular immunity and a transient state of immunosuppression have been described. Despite this, dogs continue to be vaccinated with live multipurpose vaccines and generally serious diseases do not occur. This is supported by data provided by a study of the immune system and vaccines, since the response to vaccination seems to only create an altered state of homeostasis when protection from cellular and humoral immunity is demanded. Therefore vaccines should be applied to completely healthy animals and the recommendations should be strictly followed. However, don't forget to get your ESA Letter to stay with your healthy pet.

Dog vaccination schedule
Mandatory vaccines in dogs protect against canine distemper virus and parvovirus and rabies. Optional vaccines protect against leptospirosis, parainfluenza, kennel cough caused by bordetella, Lyme disease, and coronavirus. Vaccination against leishmaniasis is also optional. (For more information on canine leishmaniasis download this article from the Affinity group here)

A vaccine that is optional in one country may be mandatory in another where the disease is common.

This is the basic schedule of vaccines for dogs in Spain:

At 6 weeks: First vaccination or first vaccination.
At 8 weeks: Versatile.
At 12 weeks: Reminder of the Polyvalent.
At 16 weeks: Rabies.
Annually: Reminder of Polyvalent and Rabies.

The most common vaccines are trivalent, tetravalent or polyvalent. The trivalent vaccine generally contains vaccines against canine distemper, canine infectious hepatitis, and leptospirosis. The tetravalent vaccine contains the same as the trivalent vaccine and the canine parvovirus vaccine is added. The most basic multipurpose vaccine, in addition to carrying what the previous ones contain, also has the kennel cough and canine coronavirus vaccine. More information about the heptavalent vaccine here.
