London is the capital of the UK and is the perfect mixture of both history and modern culture. It is one of the many cities in the world that has so much to offer, and for that reason, it has been voted the best city in the world ten times in a row. Its tourism is through the rough, and not many other cities can compete with it, especially in the UK.

There is so much to see and do in London, which makes it quite difficult to see everything in the 48 hours you are there. Nevertheless, you can see a lot of the iconic parts of London, so you won’t feel like you are missing out. You just need the right planning in place to ensure you are getting the most out of your trip. In this guide, you will find a fantastic mixture of fantastic eateries, iconic landmarks and some of the best insider tips. So let's take you through our 48-hour guide.

Day One

So you have arrived on the Friday, slept over in your hotel, and you have woken up on the Saturday morning so what do you do? Well, we recommend starting with arguably the most iconic part of London by heading towards Westminster. Here you will see the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben. After that, you can stroll along the River Thames before you reach the London Eye. Consider stopping off at one of the cafes along the way for a fantastic riverside view.

Once you have taken your steps in the morning, it's time to head for some lunch. We recommend heading onto the tube and visiting Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden for this. After that, you can have a wonderful walk around the many high-street shops that are available here. For those history lovers, we also recommend The British Museum as it is one of the best museums in the UK. Not to mention that it is free.

In the evening, you are probably feeling quite tired from all the walking that you have been doing. That is the perfect time for a fine-dining sit-down meal in Soho and Chinatown. There are plenty of options as well, and it has some of the best restaurants in London. Then, if you have enough time and you haven’t had your dinner too late, consider a West End Show or even a sunset drink at the Sky Garden or go big with The Shard.

Day Two

Day one was action packed but as you only have 48 hours, what do you expect? Nevertheless, we hope you feel refreshed after your overnight stay in London because there is more to see and do. We recommend heading towards Notting Hill and the Portobello market for your breakfast. Plus, it is great just to have a browse whilst you get to see the pastel coloured houses in Notting Hill.

If you don’t want to visit the picturesque, then the other option is Borough Market which is next to the London Bridge and is perfect for Foodies.

In the afternoon, there are plenty of options. First, you have the South Bank, where you can see street performers before seeing either the Tate Modern or the Millennium Bridge. If you did go to Notting Hill then Camden is another fantastic place to visit or, you can head south towards Kensington. Kensington is a great spot, and it allows you to stroll through Hyde Park which is an iconic park in London. Here you can see Kensington Gardens, Kensington Palace or even shop at Harrods. London has access to many fantastic places to shop such as Shopping centres in Essex, Westfield, Covent Garden, Battersea Power Station and much more.

In the evening, finish your trip to London with a meal next to the Tower Bridge or even make the journey to Shoreditch, where there are very trendy bars and fantastic street art.

Summary

There you have it, your 48-hour trip to London all ready and planned. You get to see a bit of everything with this trip however, there is still a lot more to see so don’t be afraid to make another trip again. Remember to get an Oyster card as well to make your travelling around London more affordable.
