Eco-friendly living should be at the forefront of all of our lives. As the world gets warmer and temperatures rise, it's difficult to ignore the effects that humans are having on the planet, and the actions that are in your daily life that are helping to harm the planet. This is a major concern for many; however, for others, this issue is a huge question mark. When huge companies are polluting the environment, some may think that it's not their job to reduce levels of carbon dioxide in the world, but if everyone in the world thought like this, there would never be any change.
Many people want to make a difference in the world, but have no idea where to go and what they can do, especially if they already have a low carbon footprint. However, there are simple changes and swaps that everyone can instantly make in their daily lives that can have a great effect on the environment and the planet as a whole.
So, if you want to make some small change to live to do your bit and protect the environment, here are three things that you can do.
Reduce single-use plastics
Single-use plastics are not only wasteful but also damaging to your health. From buying your iced latte every day to buying soft drinks in bottles from the shop, single-use plastic is everywhere. Until multi-use plastic, single-use plastic can only be used once, making it more harmful than other items made of plastic, especially if not disposed of properly through recycling.
To try and avoid single-use plastic, you can opt for cans and glass bottles if you are eating out, as well as bringing reusable plastic bags around with you, and even bringing your own lunch into work in glass containers so as to avoid further single-use plastic and save money. In addition, when shopping, you can opt to shop at local grocers and butchers that usually avoid single-use plastic and allow you to support local businesses. You can also switch to milk deliveries from McQueens Dairies, which can reduce CO2 emissions from driving to the shops and single-use milk bottles.
Conserve energy at home
Conserving energy at home is one way to save the planet while saving you money. You can do this in several ways. Switching off lights, appliances and energy when you're not using them or at home can help to lessen your energy use as well as lower your energy bills, which is especially useful as energy prices are consistently rising. Another way to reduce energy usage is to switch to energy-efficient bulbs, which can use less energy than traditional bulbs when they are on, further lowering bills and energy spent.
Make sustainable food choices
Changing your diet to become more plant-based is a simple way to drastically reduce your carbon footprint, as meat-based products release high amounts of C02. By swapping meat or even reducing your intake, you can not only support the environment but also support animal rights and welfare, as many farms poorly treat their animals.
