TEACH KIDS HOW TO COOK

Teach Kids How To Cook

The art of cooking is becoming a thing of the past.

I was listening to a You Tube video: “Jamie Oliver’s TED Prize wish: Teach every child about food”.  This was recorded back in 2010.  Jamie identified diet related disease as the biggest killer in the United States.  Unfortunately, there has been little progress in fixing this issue.  Obesity and Diet related disease is a real issue today.  Food related diseases is not  just hurting the person who is obese, it is hurting the family and friends who are supporting them.

The sad thing about obesity and diet related disease;  it’s preventable.  We need to educate our kids.  I completely agree with this quote:

If kids don’t know what stuff is, they won’t eat it. — Jamie Oliver

How Much Sugar?

Did you know there is just as much sugar in flavoured milk as a can of pop?

In the TED episode Jamie shows us (with sugar cubes) the amount of sugar our children are consuming in just 5 years of elementary school.  This consumption is based on 1 child drinking 2 flavoured milk cartons a day.

Change Your Health

Choose a solid foundation for health.

  • Avoid sugar
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Eat your greens
  • Listen to your body it will give you queues about its likes and dislikes
  • Love your body
    • Set realistic goals for yourself
    • You didn’t get to where you are overnight, so don’t expect results overnight
    • It takes time to build a strong healthy body

Processed Foods

Fast Food is taking over the entire industry.  It is more about convenience than eating well.   Thirty years ago most food was local and fresh. Now its largely processed, full of additives and extra ingredients.  Portion size is a problem and so is labelling.  How can a label say something is low fat when it is full of sugar?

Life Skills

Every child needs to be able to leave school knowing  how to cook healthy recipes.  This will save their life.  My stepson took a cooking class in high school this past year.  When I asked what they were making;  I must say I was not impressed.  What did they make?

  • Cupcakes
  • Brownies
  • Pasta
  • Pizza
  • Chicken
  • Soup

Besides the chicken and soup, with these recipes as their foundation, our kids will be obese.  We need to teach them!  We need to teach our kids how to cook.

What do you think of recipes being taught in a high school?

About Karen Fleury

My name is Karen Fleury. I started my online business in 2014 I am not someone who jumps into anything. I asked loads of questions about the products, ingredients, compensation plan. I researched MLM (Multi-level Marketing) and the DSA (Direct Sellers Association). I searched for validation that MLM was a solid business. I found great books which assisted me in making my decision and are helping me become a Network Marketing Professional: ‘Four Year Career’ by Richard Bliss Brook - https://blissbusiness.com/ ‘Go Pro’ by Eric Worre - http://networkmarketingpro.com/ ‘The Flip Flop CEO’ by Janine Finney, Lory Muirhead - http://theflipflopceo.com/ So.... why did I choose my business? A few reasons: 1. After attending a breast reconstruction seminar in Ottawa with my sister and hearing one of the doctors speak about nutrition; I have had a passion ever since to help people eat cleaner and live a healthier lifestyle. 2. With the news of my sister having cancer, it was time to take a closer look at not only what food we put in us, but also what products we put on us everyday. 3. To gain financial freedom. To be able to retire from my day job and not have to work until I'm 65. 4. To inspire other's that there is more to life than working a 9 - 5 job! Cheers, Karen
