šÆ THE KICKER: New City, Same Question ā Who Do I Talk To?
You can fly across the world, set up in a new place, and still end up feeling alone with your laptop.
Freedom is great.
But real connection ā thatās what keeps you sane.
Hereās how Iāve started making actual friends while living abroad⦠without forcing conversations I donāt care about or pretending to be someone Iām not.
š« THE STRUGGLE: Itās Easy to Stay in a Bubble
You get used to solo routines:
Wake up, work, gym, beach, scroll, sleep.
And itās comfortable ā but itās also isolating.
I found myself doing the same things every day, in a city full of people I didnāt know⦠and not making a move to change that.
It wasnāt that I didnāt want connection ā I just didnāt know how to start.
š THE PUSHBACK: āIsnāt Everyone Just Passing Through?ā
Thatās what I told myself.
āItās not worth trying to make real friends here. Everyoneās leaving anyway.ā
āIāll just wait until I settle somewhere more permanent.ā
But hereās the truth:
Connection doesnāt need to be permanent to be real.
Even a short friendship can make a big difference.
