What to do with thousands of old family photos?
Published by Barry McKinney — 10-23-2026 02:10:17 PM
Begin by gathering the photos and separating physical prints from digital files. Clean and scan prints at a good resolution, then name files with dates and names where known. For digital files, remove duplicates and organize by year or family branch. Interview older relatives to identify people and events. Store the organized archive on two local drives and one cloud backup. Share copies with relatives and consider printing a small selection or making a photo book. Do not throw away originals without careful thought. Label physical photos lightly and store them in archival boxes. The goal is to make the collection usable, backed up, and shareable rather than leaving it in chaos.
