Is it safe to store photos in ziploc bags?

Ziploc bags are not ideal for long-term photo storage. Ordinary plastic bags can trap moisture, off-gas, and stick to prints or negatives over time. They may also cause condensation when temperatures change. For temporary handling or sorting, clean and dry bags are usually acceptable. For archival storage, use photo-safe sleeves, envelopes, and boxes labeled as acid-free, lignin-free, and PAT-safe. Keep prints in a cool, dry place away from sunlight, heat, and damp basements. Avoid sealing damp photos in plastic. If you use plastic, choose archival-quality materials and check for moisture. Digital backups are still essential for copies and sharing.
