Is it better to store photos in boxes or albums?
Published by Barry McKinney — 10-23-2026 02:10:55 PM
Boxes and albums serve different purposes. Archival boxes are generally better for long-term preservation because prints stay flat, are protected from light, and can be stored in acid-free sleeves. Albums are better for viewing and sharing, but poor-quality albums, adhesives, and plastic pages can damage photos over time. Use archival-quality albums with photo-safe pages if you want display access. Keep most originals in boxes and create albums or digital books from copies. Store both away from heat, moisture, and sunlight. For digital photos, the box-versus-album question is less relevant; use organized folders, backups, and cloud copies. A mix of safe storage and accessible copies works best.
