Top 12 Bill Britt Amway Leadership Lessons
Listed below I want to share fourteen valuable lessons I learned from Bill Britt, mostly from watching him and hearing him speak.
# 1 People Want to Be Part of Something Greater Than Themselves
Just about every other human being, wants to be part of something much bigger and greater than themselves. We all want to belong to something of importance.
Bill Britt was great at creating something other people wanted to belong to. For most people on his team, Amway and Britt World Wide were much more than just a business opportunity. They were a lifestyle, family, culture, and an organization of winners. People were proud to be affiliated with Bill Britt and his team.
If you are involved with network marketing, and you are serious about building a large team of your own, you should do the same thing that Bill Britt did.
You want your team to be a family, a social club and a place where people can get support, motivation and encouragement. You want to create your own team culture. There’s something powerful when you can take your business opportunity and turn it into something much greater than a business opportunity.
When you can do that, many folks will stick around with you for the long-haul just because they can’t find that same feeling OUTSIDE of the business. Even if they never build a big business themselves, they’ll stick with you because of the way you make the feel when they are around you.
# 2 Get People to Events Every 90 Days
Events are powerful. Events keep people unified and motivated. Whenever possible, get your team to events. Promote events like your business success depends upon it!
This can be events that you put on, events your MLM Company offers, or events that are generic for any distributor in any company.
When people attend events, they rekindle their vision and dreams. They build their belief in their business. They re-gain their long-lost motivation. And they meet new people and learn new skills.
Without a doubt, getting people on your team to attend these events is the single most important thing you can do to grow your business. Do whatever you can to promote events.
Attend every event yourself and try to get your team to do the same thing. The people who attend the events will be the ones who go on to build a big business.
# 3 You Have to Work the Numbers
There was a special on 60 Minutes about Amway and they interviewed Bill Britt. They asked him what his secret to success was. Prior to his interview, they focused on how so many folks who joined Amway failed, but when they got to Bill Britt they got a pleasant surprise. This is what he said.
There is no secret. I simply showed the plan to 1200 people.
900 said “NO” and only 300 signed up. Out of those 300,
only 85 did anything at all. Out of those 85 only 35 were serious,
and out of those 35, 11 made me a millionaire.
The moral of the story is that if you work the numbers everything else will fall into place. You will find the serious people you need to build a large team. You can’t show your business presentation to a few people and expect big success.
You must take massive action and sort through the wimps, warriors and weenies until you can find a few very serious warriors who want to run with it and take massive action, just like you do.
These “winners” are out there. You just don’t know who they are or when they will show up.
# 4 Focus on Finding Leaders
Bill Britt was good at finding and developing leaders in his Amway business. Of all the people in Amway, other than Dexter Yager, Bill Britt probably had the most leaders on his team. He had hundreds of Diamond level distributors and thousands of Platinum and Emerald level distributors in his organization.
He knew how to find leaders and train future leaders. He learned early on that finding a few key leaders could really provide a substantial income. I think it’s better to sponsor 10 leaders on your team than sponsor 1,000 followers on your team. You should do the same thing in your business.
Find leaders. Develop leaders. If you can do that, everything else will fall into place. Of course, that doesn’t mean you don’t sponsor non-leaders. Recruit anyone and everyone you can, but spend your time with the leaders. Quantity leads to quality.
# 5 Join the Right Company at the Right Time
You have to join the right network marketing company at the right time, before it hits critical mass. You don’t need to join a start-up company to achieve success, but you want to join the distributor ranks before it hits critical mass. Bill Britt joined Amway right before it hit its major momentum and then rode it to success! Of course, he still put in the work and worked the numbers.
# 6 Follow a System
As a new distributor, you need to follow a training and marketing system. I recommend you follow your sponsor’s or upline’s system until you outgrow it and can create your own. Additionally, make sure you plug your team into the same system. Keep things simple so you can duplicate your efforts.
# 7 Take Massive Action
You have to take massive action to succeed in network marketing. You need to personally sponsor at least 50 to 100 people to find a few winners who will also take massive action. This means you need to prospect every day and show business presentations every day. You can educate yourself until the cows come home, but it’s only when you apply that knowledge that you will succeed.
# 8 Work in Depth
The sooner you can start working in depth in your organization the better. This business in built in depth. Once you have a decent amount of people personally sponsored, shift your efforts and drive your organization deep. That is where the big money will come from. That’s also where your long-term security will come from. Find five people who want to run with the business and then spend 90% of your time helping their teams. Always work at the deepest level in your team, with the newest most excited distributor.
# 9 Stick with One Company for the Long Haul
To make it big in network marketing like Bill Britt did, you need to stick with one company for the long haul. If you jump ship every couple months (or years) you won’t achieve much success. Find a company with a decent compensation plan and great products and be willing to stick with them for at least ten years, preferably 20 or more years.
# 10 Focus on Your Own Personal Development
To achieve success in life, and in the business, you need to grow. You need to read books, find mentors, attend seminars and listen to self-help programs. You must focus on life-long education and strive to get better every day. Your business will only grow as much as you do.
# 11 Get Your Spouse on Board
If you want achieve success in network marketing like Bill Britt did, you need to have a supportive spouse. That means that you and your husband (or wife) work together to build the business. At a bare bones minimum, you spouse should be understanding and encouraging of your business venture, even if they do not help you build it. it will be almost impossible to reach your goals if your spouse is constantly nagging or trying to sabotage your success.
# 12 Never Quit
To achieve success in anything in life you must persist. Nothing worth accomplishing is easy, free or happens overnight. It might take you a few years to achieve success. It might take 5-10 years to reach your goals. Or, it could take longer! As long as you do something productive to build your business every single day, and you never quit, you will eventually achieve your goals.
