5 Side Hustles for Seniors That Pay Surprisingly Well

Hey there...
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Dwayne.
I retired at 59 about a year and a half ago with just over $500,000 in assets, and I’m still going strong!

Today, I want to share five side hustles for seniors that can pay surprisingly well. I’ve tried a couple of these myself, so let’s dive in!
1. Online Photography
If you’re even a decent photographer, you can make money online with your photos. You don’t need a fancy camera; even your iPhone can do the trick. If you have a good camera, that’s even better!
Websites like Shutterstock and Getty Images pay surprisingly well for high-quality photos. On some platforms, you don’t even have to give up copyright—your photos remain yours, and you earn passive income when they sell. It’s an easy way to make money by simply uploading pictures occasionally.
2. Offer Services on Fiverr
Many of you have probably heard of Fiverr, an online marketplace where you can offer services starting at just $5.
The variety of gigs you can list is enormous - copywriting, editing, proofreading, or even quirky services like sending glitter bombs (yes, someone does this for $20 a pop!).
Even if your skillset seems niche, you’d be surprised by what people are willing to pay for. I’ve dabbled in Fiverr myself. While it hasn’t been hugely lucrative yet, you never know when a simple gig might turn into a steady income stream.
3. Self-Publish a Book
For those of you who enjoy writing, self-publishing is another lucrative option. I write thriller novels and have been trying to secure a traditional publishing deal. While that hasn’t happened yet, I’ve self-published books on Kindle through Amazon.
The process is straightforward - it takes just a couple of hours to set up, and your book can be ready for sale. Of course, sales don’t happen magically; you’ll need to learn some marketing strategies, but it’s worth a shot if you love writing.
4. Rent Out Space
Do you have extra space at home or on your property? You can rent it out! People are always looking for places to park RVs, motorhomes, or extra cars.
For example, you could charge around $200 a month to let someone store their RV on your property. As long as the area is safe and theft isn’t a concern, this is an easy way to earn passive income.
5. Rent Out an RV on Airbnb
This is something I’ve done and am currently doing. I bought a fifth-wheel trailer (a 2002 model, 29 feet long) for about $9,000, and I’m planning to list it on Airbnb and similar sites.
If you live in a desirable area with natural beauty or tourist attractions, renting out an RV can be highly profitable.
In my area, people are renting RVs for $125–$175 per night.
Compared to renting out your house, this is much simpler - you don’t need to worry about someone invading your personal space or closing off certain rooms. Plus, cleaning an RV is quick and easy.
Final Thoughts
There are countless ways for retirees to earn money without too much effort. These side hustles provide flexibility and extra income streams, and they really add up over time.
Hang in there, guys - we’ve got this!
I’ll talk to you soon.
About C A Williams
Hey there.... I am a married man and father of three living in the southwest corner of England. An ex-serviceman, I was 10 years in the military serving as an engineer, travelling the world and all that good stuff! These days I am more of a content writer online and a Bible teacher offline ! Online I mostly write about WFH, remote working and online income generation particularly and all that surrounds it. After years of personal failure I am now able to talk about what constitutes success and that is what I share in my content writing for the most part! I have no personal website or blog but have always maintained a presence on my most favourite online platform, Linkedin (until my account was hi-jacked that is!). I tried to get it back, no luck so far... Thanks for visiting and may you enjoy a blessed rest of the day!
