Failure and Success

Most people hate failure because they think that it is the opposite of success. However, in truth, failure is an integral part of success as it motivates and encourages people to work hard. Individuals cannot enrich their knowledge and improve their skills without failing and learning from mistakes. In fact, avoiding failure means avoiding success. Despite bad memories and emotions that failure evokes, learning from experience is the best way of achieving success.

While reading poems, I always admire the purity of thought and eloquence. Traveling through pages of poetry, my thoughts often return to that period of life which helped me to overcome fears and improve my skills. When I was in school, I devoted my free time to poetry which captivated and comforted me. However, I did not have enough skills to expressively recite poems in front of a large audience. The problem was not really in my skills. Fear of being misunderstood and ridiculed was always the cause of my failure.

My recitation was filled with wrong intonations and a quick tempo. Fear and uncertainty often made me forget the first lines of the poem. A clear understanding of the problem imposed a burden on my heart. Thoughts that I could not show my love for poetry and convey all its beauty to others caused uncertainty and disappointment.

As a rule, during any performance or meeting with friends, people want to show their best side, especially if they are interested in this. I am no exception. An understanding of reasons for my fear and wish to get rid of it encouraged me to take action. However, the desire is bigger when people want to achieve more than they have and become better than they are. I began to read books that helped me to gain confidence as “knowing more…cultivates a sense of awe in each of us”. Constant training also helped me to overcome the obstacle and reach the desired result. Now I am good not only at reciting poetry; working on myself improved my communication skills and made me more sociable.

The above-mentioned failure helped me to understand the significant thing about life and my inner world. I realized that my fear was terrible as it took control over my mind and buried all correct thoughts. It was nothing but false evidence. I believed that I could not recite a poem in a good way and convey my feelings to the audience. This false belief lingered in my mind. It seemed so real that I realized I had a performance phobia that prevented me from enjoying each line of poetry.

Additionally, such experience taught me to love poetry. I discovered that poetry inspires people and makes them better. The recitation of poems brings moments of joy not only to the audience but also to the reciter. This idea became the part of my credo. Moreover, since that time, I have not been afraid of being heard incorrectly or not being heard at all.

To conclude, failure is a step to later success. Although some people perceive failure as a dead end, mistakes teach humans to work hard and improve their knowledge as well as skills. The inability to recite poems influenced my perception of fear and motivated me to overcome my weakness. With the help of constant training, I gained confidence and developed my communication skills. Moreover, this experience taught me to enjoy poetry. Individuals should never stop working on themselves. The results of this work will help them to better understand their inner world and needs.
