The history of women's clothing has been influenced for many reasons. Some factors, like warmth and protection, are obvious. There are also subtler factors that can play a role. These are some of the factors that we will discuss below.
Modesty
Modesty as a concept continues to evolve with cultural and time changes. It continues to play an important role in women’s fashion as it has always. In some cultures, women are still forbidden to show their legs, shoulders, and backs. These strict codes are no longer enforced by the United States. Complete nudity is not permitted in public, except in very limited places.
Muslim cultures expect women to cover their entire bodies when they go out in public. These garments conceal well and continue to be popular. These garments can be made from cotton, rayon, silk or polyester. You will find a variety of common items, including long lycra gloves and abayas (long, cloak-like covers), Hijab underscores and jilbabs. These are outer undergarments that include coats or long robes.
Beauty and Seduction
Beauty and seduction are still the main reasons women dress provocatively, or at least attractively. For a cocktail party, a slinky backless dress might be suitable, but a suit with slim pants in muted colors would be appropriate for business dinner. Women often dress to impress, but they also choose clothing that makes them feel good.
