Platform beds are of many types. The classification can be based on different factors. That includes materials used, the type of surface that the mattress rests on, and the style employed. Wooden beds

Solid wood makes the best furniture including platform beds. However, some manufacturers also use manufactured wood like plywood. Solid wood platform beds use pure wood in constructing the entire structure. To prevent breakage and award them an attractive appearance, the woods are given finishing treatment. The most common types of wood used for making platform beds include pine, maple, and poplar. Strong thick and closed packed slats then provide the resting place for a mattress.

Metal platform beds

These beds employ strong metals in making the bed frame, legs, and all other parts. To prevent leaving marks on the floor these beds have capped legs. Sturdy metals such as steel or iron are the most common types of metals employed here. In rare designs, woven metal or wire can also be used to support the mattress. However woven metals do not provide solid support as when thick metals are used. The mattress resting surface can either be a flat metal or slats.

Slat platform beds

This type of bed gets its name from the mattress’ resting place. The structure can either be made from solid wood, metal or composite, but the mattress gets its support from slats. To provide unwavering support, the slats must be closely spaced. Ideally, the spacing should be 3 inches apart. However, some manufacturers stretch the spacing up to 6 inches when using thicker slat material. But the closer the slats are, the better the support.

Solid surface platform beds

Although not as common as slat design, solid foundation beds also exist. In this case, a plain flat material provides support to the mattress. The material can either be metal, wood or even tick plastic. Follow this site : Platformbedexpert.com if you want to learn more about morden platform bed

However, to prevent mold or mildew from developing, holes are bored on the solid material. Therefore air can then flow through the mattress thus making it comfortable. Without the perforations, solid platform beds require frequent turning of the mattress.

Foot or headboard platform beds

Initially, platform beds featured low profile rectangular or square frames. However, the modern platform bed includes a headboard, footboard or both. From such extra features, various detailing can be awarded for a more visual appeal. The footboard and headboard can be plain solid wood, spindles or a pattern created by steel rods.

Upholstered platform beds

This type of foundation bed mostly uses wood in the entire frame. After which a clothing, leather or faux leather is used to dress the entire frame. An upholstered platform bed which also has a footboard and headboard presents a contemporary look. However upholstered beds are more expensive than regular beds.

DIY platform beds

Foundation beds tend to attract affordable prices. However, some people resort to making there own (otherwise called do-it-yourself) platform beds. The reason for opting for DIY platform beds could be sheer fun or due to a tight budget. Even though it can’t be as elegant as a company made, it provides its basic need- support for the mattress.

Conclusion

Platform beds are of different attractive types and designs. However picky you can be, you are bound to get what satisfies you. If you want to paint the picture of a pompous look in your bedroom, go for the upholstered bed. Otherwise, you can also give your room the rustic look from solid wood platform beds. Read more: Best Platform Bed
