Here’s a quick and easy strategy that my good friend and mentor, Marc Korn, developed that you can use every day to start a conversation with a FB friend.

Many people publish their birthday on their page and you can use a person’s birthday as the reason to connect or reconnect.

The most important thing is that you are initiating the contact and if you ask the right question, you will get a response and then you can build on that as you have a conversation and you never know where that will lead.

I have received many qualified and targeted leads and business partners from doing this and you may find out that your friend is open to a change or looking for an opportunity.

Ways To Connect

Post on their Wall

Send it as a Message

Send it as Instant Message

Send them a eBirthday Card

NOTE: for me, the most effective method has been to send a Private message…the following message has allowed me to get the most replies and you can change it up and adjust to fit your personality…

Just make sure NOT to post any links to an opportunity…this is just about a Happy Birthday wish, but again is a great conversation starter.

“Happy Birthday!”

“Happy Birthday! + add an appropriate comment”

“I just noticed today is your special day. Happy Birth Day!”

“Happy Birthday. Hope you have a great birthday. ( Ask a question? )

NOTE: Ending with a question will insure they respond back to you if they see your birthday wish.

But don’t count on it if they are very popular and receive a lot of birthday wishes.

The most important thing to remember is that you want to TALK to people because these are your prospects.

You can chat on FB, Skype, phone, etc as long as you connect and start to communicate, you can control the conversation and if you ask the right questions, you can be a trusted consultant as you discover if you can provide a solution for your friend ( prospect )

Become a good listener and discover whether or not you have a product or service that might be a good fit.

Don’t try to make a sale, you are trying to find out if there is a sale to be made…

Reminder: Don’t be in a rush to tell people about your business until you know they need what you’re selling or they have a problem (like lack of finances ) you have a possible solution for.

And don’t give people the details of what you’re selling until you know their experience.

Personalize your questions to your situation and add your experience and sense of humor.

The answers you receive to any question you ask often contains the seeds of a better question that is next on your list.

Always end every response with a question, so you control the conversation and make it about them…

Here are some questions that you can ask and you might be surprised at what the answers will reveal and that will lead to your next question.

I am an Affiliate/Network Marketer, so here are some of the questions that I typically ask…

  1. What are you promoting online to generate income?

  2. Are you doing this full time or part time?

  3. If part time. What’s your full time job?

  4. How long have you been doing this?

  5. How is it working for you?

  6. What network marketing company are you building?

  7. Why aren’t you building a network marketing business too?

  8. How many other network marketing companies have you tried?

  9. How much did it cost you to get started with this system?

  10. What does it cost you monthly?

  11. What do you make when someone buys the system through you?

  12. Are you happy with the money you’re making?

  13. Why do you think you couldn’t make money in your network marketing business?

  14. Would you be open to looking at another company that didn’t have those obstacles?
