About Me
It's possible that we recognize Dan Pea from one of his videos on YouTube. He is a business coach, teacher, adviser, and creator of the Guthrie Organization, a consulting group that is located in a castle in Angus, Scotland. He is known as the "balls-busting mentor" to young millionaires and billionaires. He is also a business coach.
After beginning his professional life as a financial analyst on Wall Street, the businessman who was born and raised in Los Angeles amassed his fortune in the oil industry. After that, he moved on to become the president of Great Western Resources, Inc., an oil business with its headquarters in Houston that was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1984.
Now that he is 76 years old, he is known as a tough love YouTube personality. His videos have had thousands of views, and some of the titles of his videos include things like "Don't have board members who are like you" and "How to pick the bank for your transaction."
When it comes to developing a company and encouraging entrepreneurs and executives to be high-performance people, he is well-known for debunking common misconceptions about finances and simplifying complex business terminology. Pea's executive style, in particular his three-piece pinstriped suits, which he jokingly refers to as his "New Orleans pimp costume," is one of the things that sets him apart from the other candidates for the position. However, style plays a significant role in the negotiation process.
He told me about his personal style and the reasons why it is so important to look "like the president of your nation" when doing business. He said that dressed "like the president of your country"
How did you come up with your own unique fashion sense?
Dan Pea: It's the result of a number of different factors working together. To begin, I'm originally from the neighborhood of east Los Angeles. A new style of fashion was the norm throughout that time. Only when I was a teenager did I visit there. In 1966, when I enlisted in the military, I was given the rank of officer. You have the rank of officer and general in the United States Congress team. They maintained a certain level of expectation for you. The officers were not allowed to go about slouching. "Pena, you are the worst excuse for an officer in our army," the general said to the soldier. In the 1960s and 1970s, individuals often communicated with one another in this manner. As a result, I became an obsessive dresser.
What is your typical monthly budget for clothing?
I say $1 million, maybe more. For the last four decades, everything of my clothing has been tailored specifically for me by a custom tailor. The price of a quality suit may range anywhere from $10,000 to $13,000. I have many hundred of these in my possession.
Who designs your suits?
One of my tailors is John Kent, who works at Kent & Haste Bespoke Tailors in London and has made garments for members of the royal family. I have two tailors. For the last 35 years, he has been creating my outfits for me. I have a tailor in Edinburgh by the name of Peter Johnson who has been dressing me for the last seven years.
Why is seeming professional so essential to doing business?
When I worked in the business world, I saw that the CEO and chairman of a firm usually dressed more better than the rest of the company's employees. This was mostly due to the fact that they were paid more. In one way or another, I've always been in the business of raising capital; nobody is going to lend you $50 million if you go up wearing jeans and a t-shirt. It has undergone some minor alterations. The presentation in a black t-shirt and jeans has been done in the past by Steve Jobs and a few other people. People still wear suits rather often, although most of them have an open collar now.
What do you wear most of the time?
My work attire consists of a tie and a three-piece suit. If I am going for a more casual look, I will wear a bowtie. For me, this has always been a good sign. I have spent the last quarter of a century honing my public speaking skills to the highest level. It's not like I simply fell from a turnip truck and started talking like this. I practice, practice, practice. When I am giving a seminar, I rehearse for two hours before a presentation that only lasts one hour. Now that I have followers, some of them want to imitate my style. I stand out from the crowd since I always wear a gold or silver pocket watch. The only thing that has changed is that I no longer perform in fancy shoes because my arches have sagged to the point that I need support shoes.
Why do you recommend that the people you mentor dress like the president of their respective countries?
If you don't like how you appear when you look in the mirror, I can guarantee that it will show in the way that you speak and in the way that you carry yourself. In most situations, I am the most influential person in the room. Every single one of the world's presidents and prime ministers has impeccable style. I encourage children to dress in the manner of the president of their nation. I also like John Ford's overall appearance.
Why do people wear red ties with blue suits, or suits with pinstripes?
In the 1980s, the colors red and blue were seen as having authority. It wasn't for that reason that I did it. I was aware that the CEO of a British petroleum company liked to wear the power hue of red ties. They were bringing in $5,000,000 annually at that point. I make it a point to always look better than the folks I'm conversing with. No matter who I'm having a conversation with, I've always been the best prepared person in the room. I've always had the goal of dressing to the level of the person who looks the best in the room.
