Getting traffic for your website is one of the most crucial task for a successful online business. This is a short overview of various ways to get visitors. Once you understood every method and actively tested each you should be able to pull thousands of visitors to your site. It takes time and hard work but is maby one of the most important parts in online marketing.

There are many more ways to get traffic to your website and I will regularly add new tactics – think outside the box and earn the rewards.

Word of mouth. Yes, this method might seem traditional and dated. However, this is a very effective way to drive traffic for your website in the long run. You should make sure that you have a domain name that is easy to remember.

Ebay. The classified section of eBay is great to drive traffic to your website. You can even optimize your auction or create a web store in Ebay.

Website directories. Submit your website to Dmoz. Yahoo has a great directory too. Do not use automated software to submit your website or blog to these directories

Blog directories. This is another overlooked way of driving traffic to blogs. Similar to website directories but targeted to personal blogs.

Pay per post / Sponsored Post. Promote your product or service using posts. Please make sure that you use only sites that are related to your offer or product. Also see “Guest Posting”

Text-link-ads. Buy link in high PR websites. Search for high traffic\rank sites in your niche and ask the webmaster if they offer paid text links or look for “advertise here” links.

Link exchange. A bit oldschool but still has some effect. Only link to related sites from your niche. Go for long-term links.

Press releases. This is another great way to drive traffic. However, you have to know how to write a press release. This is not difficult at all. You just need to use one of the free templates that are in Internet to get what you need. Please make sure that every press release that you submit to these websites is unique. 

Prweb.com is the most powerful of all the press release websites. You get a huge exposure using this website. I think that using this website (paying $300) to drive traffic is better than getting no.1 ranking in Google. 

Rss aggregators. You can find many RSS (real simple syndication) websites to use online. Submit you rss feed to these websites, and every time you write something new, they will give you more backlinks and traffic.

Search Engines. When we talk about quality, search engines are kings. Not all the keywords are equal. This is the same for traffic. The quality of the traffic that comes from search engines is second to none. If your website can get top positions for your main keywords, then you will have a steady stream of free traffic for your website. Though the SEO market is a rough sea with a lot of competitiors.

Social Media Marketing. This is another great source of traffic. You just need to know how to engage your followers in Facebook or Twitter. However, websites such as Linkedin are very useful too. This type of traffic is great to offer a free product. You can generate useful backlinks to your pages utilizing social media marketing as well. 

Viral Marketing. This is one of the most overlooked techniques to drive traffic to your website. You just need to have links on your website for your readers to easily share your content. People who like your product, service or information will then be able to spread the word.

Ezine Advertising. This type of traffic is great. If you can contact some ezine owners and let them know that you can write articles for them, you will get more exposure for your website. You can even buy ads in these publications too.

Offline marketing. You just need to buy some business cards with your website address in it and you are done. This type of promotion is expensive. However, it might be very beneficial for you in the long run. Radio and TV ads are very helpful too.

Joint Ventures. This is one of the most powerful and cost-effective ways to drive traffic to your blog or website. If you have a new product or an email list, you can start doing joint ventures. Ad swaps are a very useful strategy to get fast traffic for you website.

Your Own Email List. I cannot stress enough that this is the holy grail of Internet marketing. Having your own responsive email list is like printing money. You just have to send them a great offer, and they will buy them right away. However, before sending offers you need to gain the trust of your email subscribers. To do it, you just need to send them quality information all the time. 

Banner Advertising. You can send hordes of traffic with banners. This is a great source of traffic for affiliates. You just need to track the performance of your banner ad in website that is related to the offer.

Guest Posts. With guest posts, you just need to write articles for blog or website owners. First, you need to contact them and let them know that you want to write for them. Detailed infos about: 

Forum Posting. This is one of the traditional ways to drive traffic, and can work rather well. Just make sure you leave relevant, helpful comments…don’t ever spam just to leave your link. 

Google Adwords. You need to have deep pockets and a lot of knowledge about Adwords. Adwords can quickly eat up your budget if you have no idea about conversion rates and split testing. Handle with care but if done right it’s a great option for highly targeted traffic.

Article marketing. Write articles and submit them to the top article directories. Please remember that you need to change at least the title of each article when you submit them to these directories. You can even use the service of article syndication websites such as iSnare. They will distribute your article to thousands of websites. Unique Article Wizard is another great service. 

Craigslist. You can get a decent amount of traffic from Craigslist. You can use its forums and relevant posts you get traffic.

Squidoo. I love Squidoo. You can get a lot of traffic using Squidoo lens. Your lens must be informative and you can build a huge seo network with those hubs.

USFreeAds. It is one of those websites that are useful to get the rankings you need. However, you need to pay to use the service.

Youtube. Video marketing is hot and you should use it right away. You just need to create a video in Camtasia, do some keyword research and submit it to Youtube. Tubemogul is a service that syndicates your video to the top video sites. This way, you will get more exposure for your product or service. You can also outsource the video creation. 

Social Bookmarking. These are some of the best sites to get traffic from. One of the things that I really love about these sites is that you get fast traffic. You can get targeted traffic in seconds using these amazing websites. Stumbleupon, Digg and Reddit are some of the best social bookmarking websites 

Senuke. It is one of the leading black hat seo software in the market. You will get huge amounts of traffic for your website if done properly. However, you need to have some knowledge about how SEO works. I do not recommend this powerful software for newbies because you can do harm to your site and rankings if done wrong.

Blogging. I recommend you to use WordPress. It’s a free blogging\CMS software.  Buy a website, install wordpress, do a good keyword research and start blogging. 

Blog Commenting. You have to find some blogs that are related to the product or service you sell, comment the content of the post, leave a link to your website, and you are done. Your comment should be of high quality and avoid to mass-keyword-stuff it.

These tips should get you going. Take action and drive massive traffic to your site with these concepts.
