Ordinary days can shift at any moment

This morning, started out as any typical Sunday morning. My sons and I got up, dressed, loaded up in the car and headed to church. We were about 3 miles from church when we hit a roadblock. Evidently, something happened to the power line on the corner. The power crew appeared to be hard at work repairing the issue. Now while I have traveled this road hundreds of times, never have I had to go on a side street.

Always be prepared to go with the flow

We really could have just turned around and watched online from home since our church streams its services, but we decided to venture out. Instead of going straight, as I have for over 13 years, for the first time ever I ventured onto a side road. I gave my son the address, he put it into the navigation system, and we stayed the course. I kept driving the direction that seemed to make sense when finally the navigation system came to life and gave us the step by step directions to the church.

Remember it is about the journey, not just the destination

When finally pulled into the parking lot, a smiled, and said out loud, “well that was a great life lesson.” My oldest son, a senior in high school asked, “what lesson is that?” I explained to him that we started the morning with a plan. We set it into action and move forward. In the midst of the plan, we hit a roadblock. We could have turned around, because the path we wanted to take was blocked, or we could forge a new plan. We decided to forge ahead with a new path. Even before the navigation system was providing directions, we set off on the path, then eventually we got to the right place. Life is exactly like that. You have to a plan, however, you also have to be flexible and willing to adapt to change.

As you move forward in your goals consider this:

If you have a dream you are trying to make come to reality, you do not have to wait for the starts to align. You have everything you need to start your journey right now.

Remember your plan is your guide. In the midst of your journey, you may have to make some adjustments. When a road block hits, don’t quit. Readjust and move forward.

Once you have your plan in place, commit to it. Stick with your plan, trust it, and don’t stop until the mission has been accomplished.
