We stood on the top of the stairs, surrounded by a dozen of policemen, and thought about what we had done and how we could solve our problem. It is worth saying that our issue was serious to a considerable degree: we were in 1963, standing with those policemen on the steps of the house, from the roof of which the fateful shot must be done in a few minutes, while the door to our world was going to disappear. My thoughts returned to the events of the previous days, when all that mess had not seemed to be so serious and dangerous, and our adventure was just beginning https://cheap-papers.com/.

It was Sunday, and my friend John and I went to the old part of the city. It was our favorite place, because there were a lot of different shops with interesting antique things. We both were fond of souvenirs from the past. It was a big surprise, when we found out that a new shop had opened. It looked mysterious with the black curtains and ancient books on the showcase. The signboard reported that you could buy really old unique books and some candies there. It seemed interesting for us, and we entered the store. The shop was big. All the shelves were full of various books. There were the ones that looked new, and were others that seemed to be there forever because of their old covers. We started to look through those books. Many of them were written in strange foreign languages, but those books were amazing even if we did not understand them. We had spent there about 2 hours, before John found a really exciting book. It was called “The Games with the Past” and told about different methods to get to the past. It looked for us like a good fantasy, so we bought it and some sweets and went to John’s house.

At John’s home, we started watching a new serial “11/22/63”. It is a really exciting movie about a usual English teacher Jack, who travels back to the past to save Kennedy. John was a big fun of this serial, and it was the main reason of our following problems. We were watching the last episode and arguing about the possible ending, when John suddenly decided to overlook our new book. He was so excited by the plot of the film that he wanted to travel in time and see for himself the situation in the USA in 1963. In my opinion, it was a crazy idea, but I did not believe in the opportunity to travel in time, so I was not afraid of the consequences, but I should have been.

Thus, we stopped to watch the serial and started looking through the book. There were a lot of different methods to travel back to the past. Some of them were quite ridiculous. For instance, if you wanted to get back in time, you would have to jump on your left leg around the well and then spit into it. Another strange method was to kill two bats during the full moon and burn them. All the ways included the appearance of the door to the past. The book seemed pretty funny and strange, but my friend had a highly serious desire to get to the past. We had been looking through the book for about two hours, when we finally found the most suitable way. It was very simple, and it was hard to believe that we could travel in time so easily.

The method was really simple to implement. We needed only a mirror and a black marker. Even I became quite interested in the opportunity to travel back in time, so we both started getting ready to implement that method. John found a marker, and we went to the bath, where a big mirror was. We had to write on the mirror surface the words: “I am coming to the past”. We began worrying a little, but the curiosity was much stronger than our fears. John took a deep breath and began to write. The mirror was supposed to twinkle, and the door was supposed to appear. I could not believe that our magic would be effective. However, I was deeply shocked, when my friend finished the writing, and the surface started twinkling. Neither John, nor I was really willing to see such a thing. I had already lost the wish to get to the past, but my mate was decisive. He said that it might be our only chance to see Kennedy’s murderer and save him. I understood it, but it began to seem very serious. and I did not want to be the part of the event that changed the world’s history.

We were supposed to say the exact day, year and place, in which we wanted to appear. John looked so calm and willing to open the door that I had no choice except to do it with him. We looked at each other, took a deep breath and said the fateful date. John opened the door, and we stepped into the frightening darkness.

We were in the centre of a big park, surrounded by the old trees. It was late morning. We were in Dallas. The door to our time was hidden in the bushes. It was near 11 o’clock, and two hours were left until the fateful shot. While I was exploring the surrounding landscapes, John was looking over the book.

“Oh no, we have only 2 hours before the door disappear. I cannot believe. We must see Kennedy. We must try saving him,” John said.

“John, I am sorry, but I think it is very dangerous. As I see, it is the North park. It takes 20 minutes to reach the Elm Street. Kennedy was killed at 12:30. We might be late,” I protested.

“OK, you can go home. I can try saving Kennedy myself, if you are so cowardly. I can change the whole history, and I do not want to lose this opportunity,” replied John and started moving out of the park.

I did not know what to do. It was so dangerous and unbelievable. However, John was my friend, and I could not leave him, so I ran after him.

We reached the Elm Street quite quickly. There were so many people that we could not find the right building. We lost almost an hour. Finally, we found the exact building. It was impossible to believe that in 10 minutes, the fateful shot would be done. We entered the building. I was so scared. We were just unarmed children, and we were trying to change the history. All that mess was so meaningless that I suddenly stopped.

“We cannot change the history, John. It is not our job. We have to go home,” I said.

“You are afraid. We have to try,” John replied.

Suddenly, the door opened, and 4 policemen entered the building. They surrounded us and began to ask us why we were there. We had only two minutes before Kennedy would have been killed. Both John and I began to cry that the murderer was on the top floor, but they did not listen to us.

And the shot rang out. It was such a crazy and unbelievable moment that we all stood motionless for a few seconds. Then, 3 policemen run up the stairs, and one of them left with us.

Neither John, nor I knew what to do. We had to run to the door in our time, but we were just staying there. Finally, John cried, “Come on, we have to go”.

We began to run. Fortunately, the policeman was shocked by the shot and responded quite late. We had less than 20 minutes, so we hurried up. All our thoughts were full of the desire to return home. When we reached the door, it was starting to close, but we were able to squeeze in the door.

Few minutes later, we were sitting on the sofa in the living room. Our adventure was really shocking and dangerous, but we learned a very useful lesson: no one should play with the past.
