What is online traffic? Is a question I’m often asked. The answer is quite simple but important to understand, it’s the stream of visitors that flow past your business each and every day, in a variety of ways. Traffic is the lifeblood of EVERY business, in EVERY sector and EVERY industry and it isn’t just an online thing.

So what is traffic?

Traffic is basically anyone that is exposed to your business (even fleetingly). It is the visitor that comes across your business and makes a choice about whether to STOP and take a look or not.

If you own a shop, it is the person that walks past (whether they decide to enter or not). If you are a plumber, it is the guy that comes across your name and gets in touch because his shower is leaking. If you own a website it is the person Googling that finds content, an advert or a link that gets taken to your website and depending on their experience, takes action.

In this post I will take a simple look at a few different types of traffic and show you why your lack of sales is almost ALWAYS (in part) down to a problem with your traffic. If you can understand how you can get more traffic and then convert it, then you will improve your results, no matter what type of business you have.

Most people think that traffic only affects websites but that just isn’t true. Eyeballs on offers is an issue for all businesses (and many charities) in every industry because we all need new people from our target market to show an interest and take actions.

Sometimes in life and in business we get stuck and it can be an incredibly frustrating place to be! When we talk about being stuck we can mean many things – here are some of the most common things that people mention when they talk about being in a rut:

• Stuck in a job you hate
• Stuck in a cycle of low esteem
• Frustration stuck

In short, a wide variety of stuckness can apply to our lives!

What can I do if I feel this way?

When you start to experience this emotion then it’s really important to take some kind of positive action. Any kind of action is good, even if you consider it to be small or insignificant.

Anything that frees you up and gets you moving forward again will have great effects on your life and your business. You’ve heard me say it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again.

In those moments of frustration and incapacitation just focus on doing something

• Read a chapter of a book
• listen to some uplifting music
• listen to a bit of an audio
• do some exercise
• sort out your bookshelf

It actually doesn’t really matter what you do!
